MAKHDUM Means Education

  Ertugrul Ghazi

On Apr. 25 which coincides with the first day of Ramadan, PTV aired the first episode of the popular Turkish TV series “Resurrection: Ertuğrul”. Often described as the Turkish Game of Thrones, the series is woven around 13th century Anatolia and tells the story of the Muslim Oğuz Turks centering around the life of Ertuğrul, the father of Osman I, founder of the Ottoman Empire.
The success of this show in Pakistan was nothing short of astronomical. With over 1.4 million subscribers and 60 million views, the drama was set to break the record of most new subscribers in a month on YouTube. PTV had dubbed the series in Urdu after PM Imran Khan visited Turkey last year and was informed about the significance of the series. Turkey, Pakistan and Malaysia also agreed to fight the rising global trend of Islamophobia, mainly in the West. The trio of nations also decided to launch a television channel dedicated to confronting challenges posed by Islamophobia and to produce films on Muslim heroes.

If you haven’t violated prison laws and you’ve had the privilege of building a home, these words come up several times a day, depending on how many hours you spend on social media. Personally, I’m getting closer to twenty-four, but that’s the story of the other day.

The Turkish show Ertugral is based on 13th century Anatolia and tells the story of the founding of the Ottoman Empire. It depicts the struggle of Ertugrul Ghazi, the father of Usman, the founder of the empire. It's often called the Turkish Game Th f Throns, and for good reason: you'll find everything except dragons and sex: castles, landscapes, clothing, a clash of swords, excitement, hell, matching opening scores. Exciting. I often see my parents tilting their heads toward a topic in the fifties, as I am with GOT, and that’s pretty much it.

The show has taken Pakistan by storm, breaking several YouTube records since its Urdu translation was released, and is now becoming a Muslim domestic show to watch in India as well. It took me a minute to get to the ground from Game of Thrones and get my stubborn nose to watch the show, but I gave in to Over Man.

The resurgence of the show
Ertugrul was created in Turkey in 2014 and after entertainment, shared in Azerbaijan, became the most sought after for their shared history. Recently, the Prime Minister of Pakistan visited Turkey and learned about the insane fanaticism surrounding the show, and decided to make Pakistan work by dubbing the show into Urdu and publishing it on the first day of Ramadan, after which it spread gunpowder to the Muslim community in South Asia. Turkey, Pakistan and Malaysia have decided to come together to fight rampant Islamophobia in the rest of the world, especially in the West, and want to present content that seeks to undo the damage done to almost every Netflix movie and series that can be seen today. Is. .

Breaking the language barrier, revival: Ertugrul got a real revival of the audience, with the main cast thanking fans here, with the hope of "visiting soon". I'm not complaining, let me be clear: if there is a meeting and greetings, you better believe that I will line up.

Muslim audience hungry for presentation
This show is just as great when it comes to all the basics on which it can be judged; It’s direction, story, acting, production, more. Muslims around the world have shown a kind of emotional connection, so since the show is based solely on Muslim characters? That will make it easier. The truth is that, for once, the Muslim character in this show is not stupid, not chronic, or terrorist. He is the real hero. A compassionate man, who lives by the promises of the Quran and strives to do what is best for his people. For once, the Muslims in the show have hearts, real feelings, flaws that are common to all humanity. It's new, especially for shows with production value like this.

I am especially happy that both Muslim and Christian communities in this show are not a matter of black and white, bad and good. There are good and bad things on both sides, which give the story a human heart. For the pay generation of parents who are not featured in shows like Game Th Thrones, it is exciting to watch the gender shift. Today, when one sees a depiction of the Islamic Empire on television screens, he adds a whole new blog game, the subject of which never touches. If ever a show or a movie depicts the Muslim Empire, it is always done through the gaze of negativity.

In that sense, the show is not just a spectacle, it is a declaration and destruction of the "Orientalist" identity of the Islamic world, which saw Muslim rulers as barbaric and terrorist men who were rife with slander and violence.
The show has direct messages from the Quran, which is presented to literally anyone as a new version, as everything you hear on television about Islamic surahs is before a man decides to put on an explosive belt. In fact, through Ertugrul Ghazi, Muslims around the world have not only found a show that is excellently done, but they have finally found the hero that their parents told them about.
